How SkillzUp transformed my CV approach
I used to think my CV needed to tell my whole story.
Every detail. Every responsibility. Turns out, recruiters spend 6-7 seconds scanning it before they decide if I'm worth their time.
6 seconds!!.
That hit me during an employability training session by Skillz-up Career Hub and honestly, it changed how I see the entire job search process.
Your CV isn't a biography it's a marketing brochure.
And if the copy doesn't grab attention immediately, you've already lost.
What really stuck with me: the formula is simple: ACTION VERB + WHAT YOU ACTUALLY DID + THE RESULT YOU GOT
Not "collaborated with cross-functional teams to drive strategic initiatives" (which sounds good but says nothing) but "led a 5-person team to redesign onboarding, reducing client drop-off by 35%."
Stop trying to sound important. Start proving you made a difference.
And match your language to your profession if you're a COPYWRITER, your CV better read like a good COPY. If you're in LAW, speak LEGAL. If you're in FINANCE, let the NUMBERS talk. Your words are selling you before you even get in the room.
And here's the other thing about networking isn't just about knowing people. It's about impact.
You can have access to everyone and still bring nothing to the table.
Real connections happen when there's actual value being exchanged, when you show up as yourself and figure out what you uniquely offer.
Shout out to Saheed Rahmon and Olarenwaju Ogundipe for the clarity.
Sometimes you just need someone to say the thing you've been avoiding.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have a CV to completely rewrite.
